The story

Reconnecting a city with its natural heritage.

Nature Trail is an eco-tourism initiative by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC), created to offer citizens guided access to Mumbai's protected green zones and natural reserves. The initiative aims to promote environmental awareness while ensuring conservation, controlled access, and public safety.

As interest in urban nature experiences grew, BMC needed a digital platform that could do more than share information — it had to manage access, guide citizens, and ensure smooth, rule-based participation across diverse user groups.

That's where 12Grids stepped in. We didn't just design a website — we designed a public-facing digital system that balances discovery, governance, and user experience.

Problems identified

As Nature Trail grew, the digital experience started to hold it back.

01
Lack of clear information & discovery

Visitors struggled to understand trail options, rules, schedules, and eligibility, leading to confusion before booking.

The challenge
You can't book what you don't understand.
Our solution

Simple, intuitive and governance-aligned.

We designed a digital platform that makes public access to nature trails seamless and transparent — clear enough for a first-time citizen, structured enough for the authority managing it.

One platform · four design decisions

Explore the work, decision by decision.

Trail discovery

Structured trail discovery.

Clear categorization of trails with essential information such as location, difficulty level, guidelines, and availability — helping citizens make informed decisions.

Structured trail discovery.
Signature feature · access

A booking flow that enforces the rules quietly.

Eligibility, capacity and trail guidelines are built into the journey itself — so citizens are guided, not gatekept, and authorities never have to reconcile access by hand.
